Markwise is published by Pixelmere. It is a local-first Mac editor for Markdown files. The app does not require an account and Pixelmere does not collect notes or app usage data.

Notes, attachments and folder access
You choose the folder Markwise may access. The app reads and writes Markdown files within that folder so it can display, edit, create, rename, duplicate and delete notes. Images pasted or added to notes are stored in an Attachments folder within the selected notes location.
Markwise may scan the selected folder to list notes, resolve wiki links, find referenced attachments and identify unused images. This processing takes place on your Mac. Note content, filenames and attachments are not transmitted to Pixelmere.
When you delete a note or choose to clean up unused attachments, the affected files are moved to the macOS Trash where supported, rather than uploaded or remotely deleted.
Local settings
Markwise stores preferences such as the selected folder reference, appearance, colour palette, font choices, font size, sort order and editing mode locally on your Mac. These settings are used to restore your workspace and are not sent to Pixelmere.
Rendered images, syntax styling and LaTeX output may be held temporarily in memory or local system caches to keep editing responsive. Pixelmere does not receive these caches.
iCloud, Dropbox and other synced folders
You may choose a folder managed by iCloud Drive, Dropbox or another sync provider. Markwise treats it as a normal user-selected folder. Pixelmere does not operate or control that sync service.
The provider may upload or otherwise process the files according to the account and privacy choices you have with it. Consult that provider's privacy information if you choose a synced location.
Collection, analytics and sharing
Markwise contains no Pixelmere analytics, advertising, telemetry, crash-reporting service or remote account service. Pixelmere does not receive, sell or share your notes or attachments.
Bundled components used for local Markdown parsing, syntax styling and mathematical rendering operate within the app. Markwise also uses Apple system frameworks for its interface and file access. These system features are subject to Apple's platform terms and privacy practices.
Retention and deletion
Pixelmere does not retain a server copy because Markwise does not transmit your files. Notes and attachments remain in the folder you selected until you edit, move or delete them. Items moved to the Trash remain there until the Trash is emptied.
Removing Markwise does not delete the notes folder. Local app preferences may remain on the Mac after the app is removed. Contact support if you need current instructions for removing those preferences.
Children
Markwise is a general productivity utility and is not directed at children. Because it has no accounts or data-collection service, Pixelmere does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
Changes to this policy
If Markwise's behaviour changes in a way that affects privacy, this policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated. The revision date above identifies the latest version.
