Getting started
Where does PromptBar appear?
PromptBar runs as a menu-bar app. Select its lightning-bolt icon near the top-right of the macOS menu bar to open your prompt library.
How do I copy a prompt?
Click a saved prompt in the list. PromptBar places the complete prompt text on the macOS clipboard, ready to paste into another app.
Does PromptBar connect to an AI service?
No. PromptBar stores and copies text; it does not send prompts to an AI model or provide an AI service of its own.
Can I organise prompts into groups?
Yes. Use tabs to separate prompts by project or purpose. Tabs can be named and distinguished with colour and symbols.
Can PromptBar open automatically?
Turn on Launch at Login in PromptBar settings. macOS may also show the app under System Settings → General → Login Items.
Data and backups
Where are my prompts stored?
Your library is stored locally in your macOS user preferences. Pixelmere does not receive it.
How do I make a backup?
Open PromptBar settings and choose Export. Select where to save the JSON file. Keep that file somewhere you back up.
What happens when I import a backup?
Importing replaces the current PromptBar tabs and prompts with the contents of the selected export. Export the current library first if you might need it later.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see the menu-bar icon
Open PromptBar from the Applications folder. If the menu bar is crowded, macOS may hide some items; close another menu-bar app temporarily or increase the available space.
Launch at Login is not working
Check System Settings → General → Login Items and confirm PromptBar is allowed. If it is already allowed, turn the setting off in PromptBar, restart the app and turn it on again.
A prompt did not copy
Try selecting it again, then paste into a plain-text field. If the issue continues, restart PromptBar and include the affected app name when contacting support.

Email [email protected]. Include your PromptBar version, macOS version, the steps that produced the problem and a screenshot if it helps. Remove private prompt content first.
